The New York Times (free registration required) featured Portland breweries and brewpubs on Friday. We always like it when big, mainstream publications pay notice to smaller U.S. breweries, and it was grand to see our friend Jim Parker quoted up front.
But didn’t you and I know Portland was one of the world’s great beer cities? It’s been on the cutting edge beer-wise for going on 20 years.
The story has received lots of attention on beer-related mailing lists and discussion boards – who doesn’t like to be validated by the country’s paper of record ? – and is full of good insights, like this one:
Good beer has become so commonplace that it has blended comfortably into the fabric of social life. Instead of fancy distractions, a big scene or a big screen, there is simply craft beer and a craft of another sort – the art of talking.
However, the time has come to expect local and national newspapers to keep up with us.
