Heineken UK abandons TV ads

The Times in London reports that Heineken has decided to change its advertising emphasis from television to sports sponsorhip and point-of-sale-promotions, basically dropping TV ads in 2006. That’s a £6.5 million (about $11.5 million) decision.

Norwegians pay more for their beer than their cousins in the other Nordic countries. Norwegian beer is twice as expensive as Danish beer, even when state taxes have been deducted.

Widmer brothers profiled

The Portland Tribune profiles the Widmer brothers and Widmer Bros. Brewing. Interesting numbers: Widmer Hefeweizen accounts for 82% of sales and is on tap in 850 bars and restaurants in the Portland area. Looks like the competition with Pyramid Hefeweizen may get a little spirited as Pyramid focuses on wheat beers.
