Happy 10th, Victory Brewing
Victory Brewing in Downingtown, Pa., celebrates its 10th birthday this month - the big party is tomorrow at the brewpub.
Lew Bryson has an interview with co-founder Bill Covaleski.
Both Lew and Don Russell [free registration required] of the Philadelphia Daily News feature the special beer brewed for the anniversary: Ten Years Alt, possibly the first doppelsticke alt made in America.
Russell has a particularly interesting exchange with Covaleski:
Ten Years Alt means Victory is growing up. Where is it headed?
This year, Victory will brew about 33,000 barrels. The brewhouse was built to handle 100,000 barrels a year.
“We were playing the what-if scenario a little bit ago,” Covaleski said of a conversation he had with Barchet. “We determined that if you’re making 100,000 barrels a year, you’re pretty much down to 7 different beers that you can possibly offer.”
That would be just three fulltime beers and four seasonals.
“I’m not really sure that’s where we want Victory to go,” Covaleski added.
Let’s hope not.
