Bert’s Pub: Good idea

A fifth-generation hop farmer - isn’t that a great phrase? fifth-generation hop farmer - plans to open a bar in the former and quiet historic Grant’s Brewery Pub in Yakima, Wash.

The Olympian in Washington reports that Aaron Gamache, a 31-year-old beer lover and hop farmer in Toppenish, plans to call the new restaurant “Bert’s Pub,” after Bert Grant, the late Yakima beermaker.

Gamache said the bar will sell craft beer as well as Coors beer, because his farm sells hops direct to the Colorado-based brewer.

The pub has no official connection to Bert Grant, who opened the first post-Prohibition brewpub in the United States in 1982, but given the sad turn the story of the brewery has taken in Yakima in the last year it will be good to at least see beer served with a tip o’ the cap to Bert.
