Christmas at the brewery
Here’s a good reason to be in upstate New York Dec. 10.
Sint Niklaas and his sidekick Zwarte Piet will visit Ommegang Brewery outside of Cooperstown, arriving on a horse-drawn sleigh and bearing gifts for children. They’ll bring traditional Belgian holiday foods, tell Belgian Christmas tales, and lead a sing-a-long of Christmas carols.
Inside the brewery’s Brouwerzaal (Brewer’s Hall) kids can help decorate the tree, participate in a coloring contest, receive small gift bags, sit on St. Nik’s lap, listen to stories, and sing along. There will be freshly made Belgian waffles, traditional Belgian Speculaas cookies, Clementines, and gingerbread for all to nibble on, along with hot chocolate and hot cider for kids to drink, and free coffee and beer sampling for the adults.
The event is free and lasts from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Details.
