The latest ‘Budweiser’

Czech brewer Budejovicky Mestansky Pivovar has received new attention for its beer, sold as B.B. Burgerbrau in the United States, because it is leaning on its “Budweis” roots while expanding distribution into the St. Louis area, home base for Anheuser-Busch and Budweiser.

So what’s the beer like? That’s one I can answer since I tasted it for Beer Talk in the September issue of All About Beer Magazine. My notes:

Is this a beer for the Czech Budweis drinker or the American Budweiser drinker? Pours golden with a lingering bright white head. Aroma of fresh grains signal the Czech connection, sweet and lightly bready palate, some hop spiciness throughout. A straight forward beer, well suited to a warm summer evening in the Southwest, certainly “more” than a mainstream American pilsner but doesn’t quite have the oomph to stand up to jalapeno poppers on the grill.
