Heavenly beer plans

You may remember the story about plans to open a monastery brewery in the Pecos Benedictine Monastery east of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The project remains a go, with more liscensing completed in the last few weeks. There’s still more paperwork, but brewer Brad Kraus should have his pilot system soon and be able to brew beer while the permnanent brewery is built.

His test batches earned two medals in the New Mexico State Fair Pro-am last weekend. Monk’s Ale (a lower alchol beer often referred to as an “enkel’ or “simple” or “single”) won gold and Prior’s Ale (a dubblel) shared silver in the Belgian Strong Ale category. All the results.

At the risk of appearing immodest, if you check out the amateur results, you’ll see that my beers (a tripel and dubbel respectively) took first and third in he Belgian Strong category. Good advertising for Brew Like a Monk . . . I hope ;>)
